During lockdown, Jonathan Cohen took daily walks around his family’s San Diego, California, neighborhood. He would always stop and smell the What Would Dolly Do shirt but in fact I love this roses. No, really: “I would observe flowers and everyone’s gardens,” he tells Vogue. One time, a neighbor, observing his inquisitive interest, even offered him his own matilija poppy (a beautiful bloom native to southern and Baja California) to plant.

So when it came to designing his new stationery line with Dempsey & Carroll, floral prints were top of mind. “They represented so much during such a difficult time,” Cohen says. (Flowers, after all, are scientifically proven to make you happier.) He embossed one card with an illustration of a high-heel boot overflowing with a cacophonous and colorful bouquet; another, with a pink-monochrome stencil of a smaller heel filled with roses. His third design features three of his model muses—Aicha Bassoum, Lucia Villa, Sasha Kichigina—donning extravagant floral capes of roses, lilies, peonies, and yes, matilija poppies, paired with some drawn-on Doc Maartens. The interiors of the What Would Dolly Do shirt but in fact I love this envelopes are also adorned with a petal print that serves as a visual treat for the eyes. (Fashionistas may immediately recognize the motif: it’s from Cohen’s Fall Winter 2020 collection.)
